Below find a list of terms from our world.
Amine wash = A process where CO2 is extracted from a gas by means of an aqueous solution of an amine, typical Monoethanolamine (See MEA) or Diethanolamine.
ASME = American Society of Mechanical Engineers. An organization focused on technical, educational and research issues of the engineering and technology community and setting industrial and manufacturing codes and standards.
CBU = Combustion Based Unit for CO2 production. CO2 is generated by combustion of fossil fuels.
CO2 = Carbon Dioxide (molecular structure: O=C=O).
CO2 source = A source containing CO2, e.g. waste gas from an alcohol fermentation process, fluegas from combustion of gas or fuel oil, waste gas from hydrogen production or other petrochemical processes.
Combustion = Burning of fossil fuels. e.g. gas and fuel oil.
EBU = Extraction Based Unit for CO2 production. CO2 is extracted from an existing flue gas source.
Econamine = Econamine FG+® is a special amine wash process that extracts CO2 from flue gases in a cost-efficient way. It is based on a Union Engineering licensed technology.
EIGA = European Industrial Gases Association. Our plants meet all quality specifications from EIGA.
Extraction of CO2 = Extraction plants can be used where the raw gas source has a relatively low CO2 content, typically up to 30% CO2. The process used is an Econamine FG+® or another amine wash process.
Fermentation process = The process that takes place when breweries and distilleries produce beer and alcohols. CO2 is a waste gas in this process and can be recovered in an RBU plant.
Filtration = A process that removes impurities from a gas or liquid stream.
FlashCO2 = A Union Engineering patented technology that is used for extracting CO2 from medium rich sources with 40-90% CO2. It combines conventional extraction and liquefaction technologies in a power and energy-efficient way.
Fossil fuels = E.g. diesel oil, heavy fuel oil, kerosene, natural gas, LPG etc.
ISBT = International Society of Beverage Technologists. ISBT is a global, non-commercial, non-profit technical society of beverage professionals whose sole interests are technical and scientific aspects of soft drinks and beverages.
Liquefaction = Transformation of gaseous CO2 into liquid CO2 by compression and cooling.
MEA = Monoethanolamine (see Amine wash).
PED = The European Pressure Equipment Directive 97/23/EC.
Purification = During the purification process, the liquefied CO2 is further purified by the removal of unwanted dissolved gases such as oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide and methane.
RBU = Recovery Based Unit for CO2 production. CO2 is recovered from a rich CO2 source of more than 90% CO2. See Recovery of CO2.
Recovery of CO2 = CO2 can be recovered from fermenting processes (in breweries or distilleries) as well as from a number of chemical processes with emission of CO2-rich gases.
Scrubbing = A process where impurities are removed by water or an aqueous solution of a chemical, e.g. soda.
Stripping = A process where dissolved gases are removed (stripped) from a liquid. It is typically used in amine wash systems where CO2 is stripped from the amine solution, but also in the purification process where impurities are stripped from the product CO2 .
WHO = World Health Organization. Our plants meet all quality specifications from WHO.
