FAQ

Q:

Does Union Engineering's plant produce food grade CO2?

A:

Yes, Union Engineering's plants are designed to meet the most stringent quality requirement and will fulfil or surpass requirements set forth in e.g. EIGA or ISBT.

Q:

Does Union Engineering plants have CE-marking?

A:

Yes, plants supplied to the European Union are all CE-marked.

Q:

What types of compressors are used in the CO2 plants for the industrial gases industry?

A:

On plants with capacities up to 2000 kg/hr we typically use oil-free reciprocating compressors. For capacities above 2000 kg/hr we typically use oil lubricated screw compressors.

Q:

Will the use of oil lubricated compressors create a risk of oil contamination of the final product?

A:

Union Engineering's CO2 plants are designed with a highly efficient oil separation system that removes oil to less than the required levels for food grade quality.

Q:

Which design standards are used for the design of pressure vessels?

A:

Union Engineering will generally supply the plants according to either the European pressure directive PED or American standard ASME. Other standards are available on request.

Q:

What type of refrigerant is used on the plants?

A:

The most typically used refrigerant on CO2 plants are ammonia. Other refrigerants are available on request.

Q:

Can I recover CO2 from landfills?

A:

Yes, technically this application is possible. However, as landfill gas contains a broad range of critical impurities that are expensive to remove, production of food grade CO2 from this source will in most cases not be competitive.

Q:

Does Union Engineering supply plants for critical extraction?

A:

No.

Q:

Does Union Engineering supply plants for production of other industrial gases?

A:

No, Union Engineering is specialized in CO2 only.
